Enjamina, Oct 20 (PTI) At least 60 people were killed when Chad fired on protesters protesting against the extension of interim president Mohamed Idris Deby.
Authorities imposed a curfew after Thursday’s violence. At least 30 people were killed in the violence in the capital, Enjmina, Chadian government spokesman Aziz Mohamed Saleh said.
However, organizers of the anti-government march in Nzamina said 40 people were killed by security forces.
At the same time, 32 protesters were killed in the city, according to an official at the morgue in Mondo, Chad’s second-largest city.
Déby was elected interim president last year after his father was assassinated after decades in power in Chad. Thursday’s demonstration was the most violent of his tenure so far.
