On April 24, the Foreign Ministry and the National Registry of Civil Status declared to Colombian citizens residing in the United States who can process their digital ID in the 11 consulates They are distributed throughout the United States.

The news was made known by the general registrar Alexander Vega and the Colombian ambassador to the US, Luis Gilberto Murillo, through social networks, where they highlighted the joint work carried out by the two entities to facilitate access to state procedures of compatriots in that country.

“Together with the National Registry of Civil Status, we work to facilitate the access of Colombians in the United States to State services. It is a source of satisfaction for us and it continues to be one of our main objectives that all Colombian citizens in the United States have an easier, more friendly and efficient interaction with the services provided by the State”, highlighted Murillo.

The digital ID offers the impossibility of falsification or adulteration.

This is how you can issue the digital ID

As it was said at the beginning, Colombian citizens can go to any of the 11 consulates installed in the USA: Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, Newark, Orlando, San Francisco and Houstonso if you are not in these cities you should go to the nearest one.

Follow the steps below to issue the document:

  • Go to the nearest consulate and pay the US$ 63.13 (282 thousand pesos) that the process requires. Remember that you must request an appointment.
  • Once the transaction is completed, they will take your fingerprints, photograph, personal data and signature.
  • You will receive in your personal mail lto temporary password of your document, while the identification process is being carried out.
  • Once the process is ready, you will receive a call to go to the consulate to receive the physical document and to carry out the activation of digital identification on your device.

It is prudent to highlight that citizens must download the application ‘Cédula Nacional Colombia’ in the App Store or Google Play Store. There, you must meet certain security parameters such as facial recognition or security pin. Likewise, you can access the document without the need for mobile data or a Wi-Fi network connection.

“In the framework of the plan for the massification of the digital ID, the National Registry has trained officials of the Foreign Ministry and consulates in the management of said stations and in the digital activation of the new ID, with the aim of providing a comprehensive service to Colombians residing abroad”, says the official website of the National Registry.
