Ineos Automotive chose the Goodwood Festival of Speed to present the presents the Ineos Grenadier Demonstratora vehicle powered by hydrogen. This 4×4 SUV emits only water vapor and demonstrates the British brand’s conviction that hydrogen is a key fuel for the future.

The Grenadier Demonstrator is virtually identical to the production model Grenadierexcept for a bulge in the hood to accommodate the additional height of the fuel cell, which will not be present in a production model.

“The hydrogen-powered Grenadier Demonstrator is an extraordinary vehicle, capable of doing everything a conventional Grenadier can do, but without emissions. It demonstrates Ineos’ determination to build extremely capable cars that will help us achieve emissions neutrality.” he claimed lynn calderCEO of Ineos Automotive.

The project to develop a hydrogen-powered Grenadier began in June 2022, when the company partnered with AVLan Austrian engineering supplier, to develop the current vehicle with the clear ambition of achieving zero emissions without compromising the 4×4 off-road experience.

The Grenadier uses the latest hydrogen fuel cell technology and zero emission powertrain from the BMW Groupconsidered the most advanced and powerful in the automotive sector.

The flexibility of the Grenadier’s platform allowed Ineos Automotive engineers to integrate the zero-emissions powertrain through modifications to the chassis and rear axle, to accommodate electric drive units and achieve true traction vectoring control at each rear wheel. .

This traction vectoring capability provides what Ineos calls Gecko Capacityexceptional control and maneuverability in all off-road conditions, as well as a tighter turning radius and improved driving dynamics on-road.

To get to this point, the hydrogen-powered Grenadier Demonstrator has undergone extensive testing to ensure that its on- and off-road capability and towing capabilities have not been compromised. Like other versions of the Grenadier, the vehicle has met the notorious challenges of the trails in the Austrian mountains and various off-road tests around Graz.
