A woman has been airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital after the vehicle she was forced into rolled over in Prince George.
According to the Prince George RCMP, police received several calls at around 3 p.m. on Oct. 15 stating a woman was being forced into a grey sedan by a male in a parking lot of a commercial building on the 900-block of Victoria Street in the downtown area.
“The woman was reportedly screaming for help and continued to do so as the vehicle left the area,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Jennifer Cooper.
Police began patrolling the area looking for the vehicle, and were then notified the suspect vehicle had been in a single-vehicle accident on the 7300-block of Boundary Road near the Prince George Airport.
When police arrived at the scene they found the woman in serious condition, having been ejected from the car as it rolled.
Witnesses said the driver attempted to carjack some of the vehicles that had stopped at the accident site, before accepting a ride from a passerby.
The woman was airlifted to hospital in Vancouver, while police continued their search for the suspect.
Cooper said some units went back to the scene of the original incident, where they located the suspect.
“A non-lethal 40mm round was shot at a closed door to gain the suspect’s attention,” she said. “Shortly thereafter the suspect was arrested without incident.”
Farbn Marvin Japow has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, forcible confinement, theft of a motor vehicle, assault with a weapon and assault.
The RCMP did not state whether Japow had been released on bail.
