Sebastián Montoya, the son of the legendary Juan Pablo Montoya, continues to take steps on his way to Formula 1, the highest category of world motorsport.

The young driver of the Telmex-Claro team assumes this weekend the sixth valid of the Formula 3 Championship, in Austria.

‘Montoyita’, pilot junior from Red Bull, which is in twelfth place in the standings with 23 units, will play at home at the ‘Red Bull Ring’, in the town of Spielberg.

Sebastian Montoyain command of Hitech’s number 14 car, said he felt “more than committed to going for the podium” this weekend because he knows the track in Austria quite well.

And after his statements, ‘Montoyita’ received the news that his team officially presented the candidacy to join Formula 1 in 2026.

After 20 months of extensive planning and preparation at its Silverstone base, Hitech applied to enter the Formula 1 World Championship. starting with the 2026 season, a move that would complete its single-seater ranking and show that Hitech has everything, the right people, experience and resources to compete alongside the best teams in the world,” Hitech GP said in a statement.

Hitech’s move comes after Kazakh millionaire Vladimir Kim, the richest in his country and recognized for leading one of the 10 companies that produces the most copper in the world, acquired 25% of the team’s parent company.

“We have a long history in the world of sport, but this is our first global investment in motorsport, we like its dynamic appeal, its growing exposure, its marketing opportunities and its burgeoning fan base match my personal and business ambitions,” said Klim, who has led prominent cycling sponsorships.

(Also: Juan Guillermo Cuadrado: the ‘play’ with which he would leave Juventus and continue in Europe).

Thus, Montoya could benefit if Hitech, a team distinguished for its great role in the steps leading up to F1, achieves its goal.

The situation, if confirmed, would ratify the predilection that Montoya and his team had for opting for Hitech, despite the fact that last year there were other offers on the table.

Along with Hitech, the Andretti Autosport, Formula Equal and Panthera Team Asia teams formalized their candidacy. However, none of these have Hitech’s experience in pre-F1 championships.
