Colombian singer Shakira will be honored as a “change agent” at the twentieth edition of the Premios Juventudwhich is celebrated on July 20 in Puerto Rico.

The recognition values ​​the extensive work of the artist in transforming communities through her Pies Descalzos Foundation, as reported this Thursday in a statement by the Univisión network, organizer of the awards.

Shakira is also one of the most nominated artists in the edition, competing in nine categoriesamong which stand out best song for my ex, Girl Power, best pop / urban collaboration and female youth awards artist.

Since the beginning of her career, the singer has dedicated time to social causes and, in 1997, created the Pies Descalzos Foundation, explained Univision. The original idea was to help displaced children and their families in Colombia, creating equal opportunities for them to attend school and have a good education.

Today, the Pies Descalzos Foundation not only provides help to children, but also to parents and teachers, generating work in the communities where its schools are located.

For the past six years, Premios Juventud has been committed to highlighting change agents, both artists and Latino youth who use their platform for the greater good.

This recognition in the past has been given to artists such as Maluma, Daddy Yankee, J Balvin, Kany Garcia, Jenni Rivera Foundation, Ricky Martin, Becky G, Pitbull and Wisin y Yandel.
